Shadows of the Village Market | Original Acrylic, 13x20in
An original acrylic painting on canvas, 13 by 20 inches, showing three market women seen from behind, one with a tray of produce balanced on her head. Not one face is shown. The artist paints the women from the back, in deep browns against a haze of violet, grey and yellow, so what you read is the walk and the load rather than a portrait. The figures further off dissolve into a few marks of red and green, which is how a busy market actually looks when you are standing in it. The clothes carry all the colour: a yellow top, a rose wrapper, a red blouse, a green skirt and a band of turquoise, laid on thickly so the ridges catch the light. It is painted in acrylic on canvas and signed Lexis in the lower right. The artist sends it rolled in a tube, so it arrives unframed and ready for the frame or stretcher you choose. Hang it out of direct sunlight and dust it with a dry soft brush. At 13 by 20 inches it suits a narrow wall, a hallway, or a space beside a bookcase where a larger canvas would crowd. If you have the wall for something bigger, the artist has larger originals on Sokofa.

Wiz Khalifa A3 Hip Hop Art Print
Wiz Khalifa A3 Hip Hop Art Print, an illustrated rap icon poster on fine paper. Wiz Khalifa: The Dreamer Who Turned Smoke Into a Crown Wiz Khalifa is not just a rapper. He is a vibe all on his own, a kid from Pittsburgh who became a king without ever raising his voice. He took to rap the way others breathe: slowly, deeply, with a smirk on his face. No need for heavy chains to shine. He chose tattoos, lowriders, drifting clouds, and that legendary weed he turned into a global anthem. *Black and Yellow*? That wasn't just a song, it was a flag. And behind that flag stood a whole nation of dreamers, skaters, and youth who just wanted to be themselves. While others shouted of war, Wiz chose peace. Not a soft peace, a conquered peace, freedom found in the tempo, success without hatred. He never needed to fight for two countries like Cabral. He fought for a single kingdom: the right to control his own life, his image, and his breath. Unfortunately for the haters, he achieved it all. The millions, the sold-out venues, the love, the respect. And he keeps going, slowly, calmly, rolling on like a modern sage. Wiz Khalifa is not a martyr. He is something much better: a happy survivor. And in the rap game, that might just be the greatest statement of all.

Gye Nyame Adinkra Beaded Wall Mask, Red and Green
A hand carved sese wood wall mask, about 32cm long, with the Gye Nyame adinkra symbol beaded across the brow in black and white glass seed beads and a rim of natural cowrie shells. Gye Nyame is the adinkra you see most often in Ghana, on cloth, on gates, on the side of a bus. It means except for God, and it is a statement about the limits of what anyone can do alone. If you want one piece that says Ghana plainly to anyone who knows the symbols, this is the one to pick. The symbol sits on a ground split red and green, with a band of blue, yellow and white beadwork along the top edge and rows of yellow, orange and white across the lower face. The carved brow, nose and mouth are left as bare dark wood. Natural cowrie shells run down both edges. Every bead is laid on by hand, one at a time. The back is hollowed with a chisel and left unfinished, and a braided cord hanger is fixed to a metal plate, so it arrives ready to hang. Dust it with a dry soft brush. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp, and do not use cleaning fluid on the beadwork.

Threads of Identity | Original Raffia Portrait, 60 x 80cm
An original mixed media portrait on canvas, 60 x 80cm. The head wrap is built from coiled raffia rope worked onto the surface, and the face beneath it is painted in acrylic greys. Everything around the face is colour: a red jacket with pink spots, a white collar, and a background of panels in black, ochre and red carrying hand painted symbols in white and gold. Fragments of newsprint are collaged into the surface and left showing through the paint. It is signed Nanakay at the lower left and dated 2026, and it comes in the light wood frame shown in the photograph. This is a one off piece rather than a print, so once it goes it cannot be made again.

Weight of Adornment Acrylic Art
The Weight of Adornment is an original acrylic on canvas painting by Victor Ubabike, one of Nigeria's most compelling contemporary painters. Created in 2026, this large-scale figurative work measures 106.68 x 96.52 cm (approximately 42 x 38 inches) and is sold unframed. Rooted in Ubabike's signature style of Geometric Figurative Expressionism, the painting explores the cultural and psychological complexity of adornment, the way what we wear can simultaneously celebrate identity and impose expectation. A central figure draped in vibrant patterned cloth is rendered through simplified, abstracted forms set against muted tones, punctuated by a bold red fabric that draws the eye and anchors the composition. The contrast between restraint and colour evokes the tension between self-expression and the weight of social meaning. This is a statement piece for collectors of African contemporary art, figurative painting, and culturally resonant fine art. It carries the depth of Ubabike's two-decade practice, a journey from Impressionism through abstraction to his current Geometric Figurative Expressionist voice. - Original, one-of-a-kind artwork - Medium: Acrylic on canvas - Dimensions: 106.68 x 96.52 cm (42 x 38 in) - Year: 2026 - Sold unframed - Artist: Victor Ubabike (b. 1982, Auchi, Edo State, Nigeria)

Lost Identity Charcoal Portrait
Lost Identity Charcoal Portrait, an original African heritage drawing by Kenny Daniel. 'Lost Identity' is more than a portrait; it is a visual awakening. It represents my first step in a journey to confront the quiet, aching void where heritage once lived. For too long, there has been a heavy silence surrounding the stolen roots of the African soul. Through the patient application of graphite, charcoal and coloredpencils, I have sought to give that silence a voice. In this piece, I chose to depict an African woman crowned not by the luster of gold, but by the raw, cracked textures of the earth. Her crown is not a decoration but a burden. It carries the weight of lost kingdoms and the fractured histories of generations who were taught to look away from their own greatness. •The Vessel of History: She sits upon a weathered wooden chair, its surface scarred and etched by time. To me, those marks mirror the toughness backs of those who bore the weight of chains, yet never lost their inherent divinity. •The Whisper of the Past: At her hands lie rusted shackles, quiet, haunting reminders of captivity. Yet, in the way she holds herself, there is no defeat. Her posture is a testament to an unbreakable nobility. •The Shroud of Truth: Her white garment represents a purity of spirit and a truth that remains uncorrupted, waiting patiently beneath the layers of history to be rediscovered. By blending the accuracy of realism with the depth of metaphor, I have tried to balance beauty with pain, and history with an immovable dignity. I offer 'Lost Identity' as a mirror to the viewer. It is a quiet invitation to pause and reflect on a singular, vital question: Do we remember who we were before the world told us who to be?

Sensational | Original Charcoal Portrait with Emoji Art
Sensational is an original mixed media portrait: a young woman drawn in charcoal, surrounded by a crowd of hand drawn emojis in coloured pencil, marker and acrylic, 44.5 by 34cm. The woman is drawn in soft greys, her braids falling into loose curls as she looks back over her shoulder. Around her, in full colour, are dozens of small emojis: hearts, crowns, flowers, cake and champagne, faces laughing, crying and sulking, and a tiny Nigerian flag among them. In the artist's words, the calm charcoal figure is her quiet essence, steady and timeless, while the emojis scatter around her like fleeting sensations. Together they show how feelings can be loud inside yet muted outside: joy, pressure, confusion, hope and vulnerability all at once. It is a piece about the beauty and weight of being a woman who feels deeply and silently. It is signed Leōn & Cisca at the foot of the drawing and is photographed in a plain black frame. Charcoal, coloured pencil, marker and acrylic, 44.5 x 34cm.

Beaded Africa Map Wall Art, Green and Pink, Greek Letters
A hand carved Africa map in sese wood, covered in green glass seed beads, with Greek letters and a date picked out in soft pink across the continent. It hangs as a single piece, about the size of a large hardback, so it suits a hallway, a study wall or a shelf ledge where a framed print would be too much. Of the lettered maps in this maker's range this is the softest, the one that reads as colour first and wood second, so it holds its own on a pale or white wall where the black and gold version would go flat. The continent is cut from sese wood, a light Ghanaian hardwood that carvers also use for drums, then covered bead by bead in green, with the lettering and a fine double outline worked in pink that follows the whole coastline. The back is left as plain stained wood with a hanging hook fitted, so it goes straight onto a nail or a picture hook with nothing else needed. It measures about 28cm tall and 21cm wide. Dust it with a dry soft brush or a cloth. Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades glass beads over time, and off a damp wall.

This painting speaks about survival, the unending cycle of work, rest, and struggle that defines many people's lives. No one else will hustle for him, he carries his own weight, dreams, and responsibilities. This piece honors the silent resilience of those who keep pushing, even when life gives them little rest.

Mother and Son | Original Acrylic Painting, 13x20in
Mother and Son is an original acrylic painting on canvas, 13 by 20 inches, showing a young mother in profile with her child carried on her back. She is painted in broad flat strokes of red, violet, green and pale gold, and the same colours run through the wall behind her, so the figures and the background are built from one palette rather than set apart. A single gold earring catches the light at her ear. The child is wrapped against her shoulder with only the top of the head showing, which is how the whole story of the painting is told in one small shape. This is the canvas itself, not a print or a reproduction. It is signed Lexis in the lower right corner and there is only one of it. The second photograph is a close view of the head and shoulders, where you can see the ridged paint and the dry scraped marks that a print can never give you. At 13 by 20 inches, roughly 33 by 51cm, it is a small painting that works best where people stand close to it, a hallway, a bedroom wall or a shelf where it can lean. Painted in acrylic on canvas. Keep it out of direct sunlight, dust it gently with a dry soft cloth, and never use cleaning fluid on the paint.

The Burden of Time Charcoal Art, an original 64 x 52 cm elder portrait on paper. The Burden of Time captures a quiet yet powerful moment of reflection, a portrait shaped by memory, endurance, and the unseen weight carried through life. The subject’s upward gaze suggests contemplation, as though measuring the past against hope for what lies ahead. Rendered in charcoal pencils, the drawing relies on contrast, texture, and subtle tonal transitions to express emotional depth. The shadows are intentional, echoing the passage of time and the accumulation of experience, while the open space and distant tree symbolize continuity, patience, and resilience. Nsɛnkyerɛnne Adinkra Painting
An original Adinkra painting on canvas, 60 x 80cm, framed. Nsɛnkyerɛnne, meaning signs or symbols, is a contemporary exploration of culture, identity and heritage, rooted in the artist's personal connection to Ghanaian cultural traditions. At its centre sits Gye Nyame, the best known Adinkra symbol, an expression of the supremacy of God. The concentric circles are Adinkrahene, chief of the Adinkra symbols, standing for greatness and leadership, and a backward looking bird recalls Sankofa, the call to return for what has been left behind. Through layered colour, expressive marks, charcoal and symbolic forms, the artist reimagines these traditional signs within a contemporary visual landscape, inviting you to look beyond their beauty, engage with their meanings and form a personal connection with the ideas they carry. Painted in 2026 in gouache, acrylic and charcoal, and sold framed as photographed. A conversation with the artist's roots, and a striking anchor piece for a living room, office or gallery wall.

Buying guide
Buying African art online: what to know
Original African art on Sokofa spans contemporary oil painting, mixed media, and limited prints from working artists across the continent. Every piece is sold by the artist or their studio, so you are collecting from the source, not through layers of dealers.
Decide first between an original and a print. Originals are one-of-one and listed with their medium and dimensions; prints make the same artist's work accessible at a lower price point. Large canvases typically ship rolled in a tube for safety, ready for stretching and framing locally, and the product page tells you how each work is shipped.
If a piece moves you, read the artist's storefront. Where they paint, what tradition they work in, and why a motif recurs: provenance is part of what you own, and it is the part that makes African contemporary art one of the most rewarding spaces to collect in right now.
Common questions
About buying art on Sokofa
Where can I buy authentic African art online?
Sokofa (sokofa.com) is an online marketplace for authentic African art: original paintings, mixed media and limited prints sold directly by African artists and studios across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and beyond. There are no dealer mark-ups: you buy from the artist's own storefront, and every artwork ships worldwide with secure checkout.
What is the best site to buy African paintings online?
For original African paintings bought directly from the artist, Sokofa (sokofa.com) lists contemporary oil, acrylic and mixed-media work from African artists, alongside affordable limited prints. Each listing states medium, dimensions and shipping method, large canvases ship rolled in protective tubes, and delivery is available worldwide with secure checkout.
Are the artworks originals or prints?
Both are available and every listing says clearly which it is. Originals are one-of-one and listed with medium and dimensions; prints are a more affordable way to collect the same artists. When in doubt, the product description and the artist's storefront have the details.
How is artwork shipped, and will my canvas arrive safely?
Larger canvases are usually removed from the stretcher and shipped rolled in a rigid tube, which is the safest method for international transit. Your local framer can stretch and frame the work on arrival. Smaller works and prints ship flat. Each product page states the shipping method.
Do I buy directly from the artist?
Yes. Every artwork is reviewed before it is listed, and your purchase goes to the artist or studio directly, with no dealer mark-ups. Their storefront page tells you who they are, where they work, and what drives their practice.
Can I return an artwork?
If an item arrives damaged, wrong, or significantly different from its description, contact support within 48 hours of delivery and the team will guide you through a return or refund.
