African Painting, Goods Ready for Sale

An original painting in brown washes and pen and ink on canvas, 7 x 10 inches. Goods Ready for Sale shows an industrious young girl, poised and ready for business. She sits on a low stool in a headscarf, a broad brimmed sun hat in the foreground, with palms, water and three figures behind her. The viewer is left to imagine what goods she might be offering. The artist lists the medium as aciduro with pen and ink. Earthy brown washes are layered with pointillism, scribbles and fine hatching, which gives the surface a texture you notice up close, as the detail in photo 2 shows. It is signed LEXIS in the lower right. The small size suits a hallway, an office, a bedroom or a gallery wall. The canvas comes unstretched and unframed, with a folded and stitched border, and is sent rolled in a tube. Keep it out of direct sun and damp.
