Pastel is a delicate, unfixed medium. This work should be framed behind glass and handled by the edges only. Colours may look slightly different on different screens, and small variations in surface and texture are part of an original hand made work.
Original soft pastel portrait on board, 91 x 124 cm. A hand held over the mouth, a study of the silence we keep when we should speak. One of a kind.

Bound by Silence looks at how readily we stay quiet. Our eyes have seen what is wrong. Our ears have heard what demands attention. Our conscience already knows that something has to be done. And still the answer is silence. The piece asks what happens when seeing and hearing are followed by nothing, and how a refusal to speak lets the wrong thing carry on unchallenged. It is an invitation to look at the silences we keep, in our own lives and in the society around us, and at the responsibility that comes with what we have already seen and heard. Change usually begins at the moment somebody decides to speak. Worked in soft pastel on board, at greater than life size.
