Stuck Mixed Media Painting
STUCK captures the quiet confusion that comes from too many competing voices rather than a lack of options. The figure is suspended between culture, society, and personal truth pressures that speak loudly enough to drown out the self. This state of being stuck is subtle: constant thinking without movement, awareness without clarity, and the tension of knowing something is wrong but not knowing what to change. The work reflects how mental health struggles often begin with confusion questioning whether emotions are weakness, fear, exhaustion, or growth while cultural expectations about success, strength, and identity continue to weigh heavily. STUCK represents an internal pause: the moment self-awareness begins but direction has not yet formed. It is not a story of failure, but of recognition giving visibility to those trying to understand themselves in a world that insists on defining them.

Handmade Leather Mules for Men - Brown Hair On Hide Backless Loafers
The Owen T mule is a backless leather slip on for men, handmade in Nigeria from hair on goat hide. The upper keeps the natural brown and white markings of the hide, so no two pairs carry the same pattern, and a single leather strap runs across the vamp with a small keeper. It is built on a closed round toe with an open back, which is the shape that makes a mule work: it goes on in one motion but still holds the foot properly, unlike a slide. The black sole has a low stacked edge, so it reads as a proper shoe rather than a house slipper. Wear them for the things a loafer is too formal for and a trainer is too casual for: dinner, a weekend, an evening at home that still has people in the room. They sit well with tailored trousers, dark denim, and with a kaftan or agbada. Available in men's EU 40 to 46, with UK, US and foot length equivalents in the size guide below. Mules are held across the strap rather than at the heel, so message us if you fall between two sizes. Because the upper is a natural hair on hide, the brown and white markings, the direction of the hair and the depth of colour differ from pair to pair and from the photographs. That is the material, not a fault. Care: brush gently along the direction of the hair with a soft brush, spot clean with a barely damp cloth and let dry away from heat. Do not soak or machine wash. Store in the box away from direct sunlight.

Handmade Green Leather Sneakers for Men - Cyrene Low Top Trainers
The Cyrene is a low top leather sneaker for men in deep forest green and cream, handmade in Nigeria by Owen T. The upper is cut from smooth leather in contrast panels, laced with flat cotton laces, and carries the Owen T roundel on the side quarter. It sits on a chunky white rubber cupsole with a soft mint tint running through the midsole, so the shoe reads clean and modern from across a room and shows its handwork up close. Green and cream is easier to wear than all white and less severe than all black, which makes this a rare thing: one sneaker that works with tailored trousers on a Friday and with jeans on a Saturday. Available in men's EU 40 to 46, with UK, US and foot length equivalents in the size guide below. If you fall between two sizes, message us before ordering and we will advise. Wear it with cropped chinos, dark denim, a linen suit or under a kaftan. The green does the work, so keep the rest of the outfit quiet. Every pair is cut, stitched and finished by hand in Nigeria, so small variations in grain, colour depth and stitch line are normal and are the mark of a handmade shoe rather than a fault. Care: wipe with a soft dry cloth after wear, treat with a neutral leather conditioner every few weeks, keep away from direct heat, and store with shoe trees or stuffed with paper so the shape holds.

Pink Heart Print Ankara Two Piece Set - Shirt & Wide Leg Trousers
A hot pink and royal blue Ankara two piece set, handmade in Nigeria by Lummy Atelier. The collared short sleeve shirt is cut in a bright pink cotton wax print with a white heart outline motif, and pairs with matching royal blue wide leg trousers in the same heart print, so the co-ord reads bold without trying too hard. The shirt has a relaxed, breathable fit that skims rather than clings. The trousers sit on the natural waist and fall in a long, fluid wide leg that lengthens the line and moves well when you walk. Available in Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. Made from cotton Ankara wax print fabric, so it breathes in warm weather, holds its colour through repeated washes and presses back to a crisp finish. Wear the set together for weddings, owambe, church, brunch, birthday shoots and holiday dressing, or split it up: the pink Ankara shirt works over jeans or white tailoring, and the blue wide leg trousers carry a plain top on their own. Every piece is cut and sewn in small batches by our team in Nigeria, so slight variations in print placement are part of the character of the garment. Care: machine wash cold on a gentle cycle or hand wash. Wash separately for the first two washes, hang to dry away from direct sunlight and iron on a medium heat on the reverse.

Martin Luther King Jr A3 Print
Martin Luther King Jr A3 Print, an illustrated portrait poster on fine paper. Martin Luther King Jr. — The Dreamer Who Walked on Lightning Martin Luther King Jr. was not just a pastor. He was a backbone dressed in a suit, a voice rising from the Deep South to tell America that it would never sleep peacefully again until it stood upright for everyone. He did not choose violence. Not out of weakness — out of strength. Because he knew that hatred is better fought with unyielding dignity than with a raised fist. He took the Bible, Gandhi, and a microphone, and he marched. From Montgomery to Selma, from Birmingham to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, he carried on his shoulders an entire people tired of waiting. *I have a dream…* those four words were not a poem. They were a promise. A mortgage on the future. He spoke of his little children one day being judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. He spoke softly, but every word weighed heavier than a chain. Unfortunately, a sniper's bullet caught up with him on April 4, 1968, in Memphis. He never saw his dream fully realized. He never saw the civil rights laws truly transform hearts. He never saw a Black president sit in the office he had shaken to its core. But what he sowed — non-violence as a weapon, love as a strategy, hope as resistance — no one will ever be able to bury with him. Martin Luther King Jr. never reached the promised land. But he showed the way. And millions are still walking it today.

Wiz Khalifa A3 Hip Hop Art Print
Wiz Khalifa A3 Hip Hop Art Print, an illustrated rap icon poster on fine paper. Wiz Khalifa — The Dreamer Who Turned Smoke Into a Crown Wiz Khalifa is not just a rapper. He is a vibe all on his own, a kid from Pittsburgh who became a king without ever raising his voice. He took to rap the way others breathe: slowly, deeply, with a smirk on his face. No need for heavy chains to shine. He chose tattoos, lowriders, drifting clouds, and that legendary weed he turned into a global anthem. *Black and Yellow*? That wasn't just a song — it was a flag. And behind that flag stood a whole nation of dreamers, skaters, and youth who just wanted to be themselves. While others shouted of war, Wiz chose peace. Not a soft peace — a conquered peace, freedom found in the tempo, success without hatred. He never needed to fight for two countries like Cabral. He fought for a single kingdom: the right to control his own life, his image, and his breath. Unfortunately for the haters, he achieved it all. The millions, the sold-out venues, the love, the respect. And he keeps going, slowly, calmly, rolling on like a modern sage. Wiz Khalifa is not a martyr. He is something much better: a happy survivor. And in the rap game, that might just be the greatest statement of all.

Nepho Leisure is an original ink drawing on paper by Art of Chine Kosi, measuring 11.7 by 19.8 inches and sold unframed. Created in 2023, this uplifting artwork depicts a figure soaring through clouds in a state of pure euphoria and freedom. The word nepho relates to clouds, and combined with leisure, the title evokes a sense of weightless relaxation and transcendence. The detailed linework creates movement and energy that makes the figure feel alive and in motion across the paper. This original African artwork is perfect for collectors who appreciate figurative art with themes of freedom, joy, and human aspiration. Ideal for living rooms, offices, and creative spaces that benefit from uplifting, energetic artwork. A one-of-a-kind hand-drawn piece by a talented Nigerian artist.

Stuck in Freedom Acrylic Painting
Stuck in Freedom is an original 2 x 3 ft painting on mental health and inner conflict. STUCK IN FREEDOM This work came from moments where everything looked right on the outside, but nothing felt settled on the inside. The person in this work is free. Free to choose. Free to leave. Free to begin again. Yet he doesn’t move. Freedom can create confusion. When there are no clear limits, the mind starts questioning every step. You wonder whether the problem is the situation — or yourself. You replay decisions. You delay action. You stay in one place longer than you planned. The open cages represent opportunities that exist but feel heavy. Each open door carries responsibility, comparison, and fear of making the wrong choice. Freedom becomes something to manage rather than something to enjoy. He covers his face because he is overwhelmed. Not because he is weak, but because he is processing more than he can explain. Mental health struggles don’t always come from pain alone — sometimes they come from pressure to be grateful when you are not at peace. The body reflects life and potential. Healing is possible, but not immediate. Identity, culture, and personal history still sit on the body, shaping how freedom is experienced. You don’t step into freedom as a blank slate. The movement in the sky shows a restless mind. Thoughts travel, but they return to the same place. This is the experience of anxiety and emotional exhaustion — movement without direction. Despite everything, the work holds space for hope and faith. Not loud hope. Not instant answers. But the belief that awareness is the first step toward release. That recognizing the struggle is not failure — it is the beginning of freedom. STUCK IN FREEDOM speaks to people learning that freedom of circumstance does not guarantee freedom of mind — and that healing often starts with honesty. This work is not asking to be rescued. It’s asking to be seen.

Bob Marley A3 Reggae Art Print
Bob Marley A3 Reggae Art Print, an illustrated reggae icon poster on fine paper. Bob Marley — The Lion Who Didn't Wait for the Crown Bob Marley was not just a singer. He was a voice rising from the Jamaican soil, a prophet in an open shirt and rastas on his head. He took up music the way others take up a rifle: to wake the sleeping, and to tell the powerful that their day would come. Born in Nine Mile, raised in dust and dignity, he saw poverty and chose to turn it into a rhythm. Not to weep — but to march. So that Trenchtown would become a consciousness, not just a ghetto. While others spoke of liberation, Marley sang it. He never held a gun, but his songs shook more governments than an army ever could. *Get up, stand up*… that wasn't an invitation, it was an order. And the order came from below, from the people, from the sacred smoke. Unfortunately, the lion did not see Zion in his lifetime. Illness caught up with him on May 11, 1981, before he could rest his dreadlocks on a truly free land. But what he sowed in people's hearts — unity, gentle rebellion, love that resists — no one will ever be able to assassinate. Bob Marley never reached the promised land. But without him, no one would have known how to dance along the way.

Amilcar Cabral A3 History Print
Amilcar Cabral A3 History Print, an illustrated portrait poster on fine paper. Amilcar Cabral — The Engineer Who Armed a Revolution Amilcar Cabral was not just a freedom fighter. He was an agronomist who looked at the soil of Portuguese Guinea and saw the chains of a colonial economy built to extract, not to feed. Born in 1924 in Bafata, he trained as an agricultural engineer in Lisbon, the very capital of the empire he would spend his life dismantling. There he found other African students plotting independence in cafes and dorm rooms. He carried that education home and turned it into strategy. In 1956 he founded the PAIGC, the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, the only liberation movement fighting to free two countries with one struggle. By the early 1960s talk had become war. He built schools and clinics in the liberated zones while his guerrillas held off one of NATO's own member armies. Unfortunately, he was assassinated on January 20, 1973, in Conakry, cut down by a rival within his own movement only months before Guinea-Bissau declared the independence he died for. Cabral never reached the promised land either. But the two flags he fought to raise both went up without him, and the soil he studied as a young engineer finally became his people's own.

Ethiopian Woven Storage Basket
Ethiopian Woven Storage Basket, handwoven from dry grass with tied genuine leather handles. This handwoven basket features a unique leather handle design. Unlike standard baskets where handles attach at the top rim, these genuine leather handles are tied further down below the rim. This creates a deeper basket with a different look and feel. The basket is made in Ethiopia from natural dry grass woven entirely by hand. The body is tall and sturdy. The leather handles are hand cut, knotted, and secured below the rim so the basket opens wider at the top while keeping the handles low for easy carrying. This design works especially well for storing blankets, pillows, towels, or other soft items that need a deeper basket.

Mother of Mankind Pencil Portrait
Mother of Mankind Pencil Portrait, an original African drawing by Kenny Daniel. Creating 'Mother of Mankind' was a profound journey of discovery for me, a meditative process of peeling back layers to reveal a truth that belongs to us all. By depicting an African woman with a fair complexion cradling the Earth, I wanted to capture the heartbeat of our shared beginning. Placing Africa at the forefront is a tribute to the soil from which every human story first emerged, not merely a geographic choice. My practice has always been about more than just the technical execution of light and shadow. With this piece, I sought to harmonize the spiritual with the scientific. I am deeply moved by the genetic and fossil records that prove our physical differences are but a beautiful, rhythmic adaptation to the environments we inhabit. They are not lines of division, but textures of survival and grace. •The Vision: To challenge the illusions of racism and prejudice through the lens of our common ancestry. •The Intent: To use the pencil as a tool for social healing, reclaiming the dignity of indigenous identities that have long been overshadowed. •The Connection: To invite the viewer to look beyond the skin and see the kinship that binds us. I view this drawing as my humble contribution to a timeless tradition of art that speaks when words are not enough. It is intended to be a visual and intellectual bridge, a space where we can pause and reflect on the miracle of our interconnectedness. My hope is that when you look into her eyes, you recognize yourself. You recognize the "Mother of Mankind" in us all, reminding us what it truly means to be human.

Daughter of the Ancestors Canvas
Daughter of the Ancestors Canvas, an original African woman portrait painting. This artwork speaks in the language of the ancestors. The woman’s profile, calm and lifted, reflects dignity, wisdom, and quiet strength passed down through generations. Her headwrap and cloth are not merely adornment they are symbols of identity, culture, and belonging, carrying the stories of her people. The bold yellow background echoes the African sun, source of life, endurance, and renewal. In her stillness, we see pride; in her posture, we see resilience. She stands as a reminder that African womanhood is rooted in heritage, guided by spirit, and rich with history and purpose.

Daughter of Nations Pencil Art
Daughter of Nations is a drawing about the beauty of our shared history. It is a visual prayer that looks at how we are all connected, no matter where we come from. For months, I focused on the fine details, like the soft folds of her Gele (headwrap), the heavy glow of her Coral Beads and the beauty in her face. But as the drawing came to life, I realized it wasn't just about technique. It was about Remembrance. • A Bridge of Cultures: Her face brings together African and Asian heritage. She reminds us that for thousands of years, our ancestors traveled, lived and grew together. • Symbols of Pride: Her bright Aso Oke fabric and royal beads are signs of a deep global dignity and not just decorations. • A Quiet Strength: She's an unshakeable nobility, showing that different cultures do not have to clash. They can live together in perfect harmony. The Message I need you to understand that I created this piece as a mirror. When you look at her, I hope you don't just see a stranger. I hope you see a part of yourself. She is a reminder that our differences are not walls that keep us apart, but parts of one beautiful human design. "In her eyes, you don't see divided histories...you see the world coming together as one."

Lost Identity Charcoal Portrait
Lost Identity Charcoal Portrait, an original African heritage drawing by Kenny Daniel. 'Lost Identity' is more than a portrait; it is a visual awakening. It represents my first step in a journey to confront the quiet, aching void where heritage once lived. For too long, there has been a heavy silence surrounding the stolen roots of the African soul. Through the patient application of graphite, charcoal and coloredpencils, I have sought to give that silence a voice. In this piece, I chose to depict an African woman crowned not by the luster of gold, but by the raw, cracked textures of the earth. Her crown is not a decoration but a burden. It carries the weight of lost kingdoms and the fractured histories of generations who were taught to look away from their own greatness. •The Vessel of History: She sits upon a weathered wooden chair, its surface scarred and etched by time. To me, those marks mirror the toughness backs of those who bore the weight of chains, yet never lost their inherent divinity. •The Whisper of the Past: At her hands lie rusted shackles, quiet, haunting reminders of captivity. Yet, in the way she holds herself, there is no defeat. Her posture is a testament to an unbreakable nobility. •The Shroud of Truth: Her white garment represents a purity of spirit and a truth that remains uncorrupted, waiting patiently beneath the layers of history to be rediscovered. By blending the accuracy of realism with the depth of metaphor, I have tried to balance beauty with pain, and history with an immovable dignity. I offer 'Lost Identity' as a mirror to the viewer. It is a quiet invitation to pause and reflect on a singular, vital question: Do we remember who we were before the world told us who to be?

Malcolm X A3 Black History Print
Malcolm X A3 Black History Print, an illustrated portrait poster on fine paper. Malcolm X — The Truth That Still Burns Malcolm X was not just an activist. He was an armed conscience, a voice rising from the flames, a man born in pain and killed for daring to name the evil. Raised in the storms of segregated America, he saw his father murdered, his mother broken, and his youth stolen. In prison, he reinvented himself. Not to beg for a seat at the table — but to flip the entire table over. From the Nation of Islam to Mecca, he never stopped growing, unlearning, and searching for absolute justice. He spoke out loud what the oppressed only whispered: *by any means necessary*. Not out of hatred — out of necessity. Because turning the other cheek when your house is being burned down isn't virtue, it's cowardice. While others talked about integration, Malcolm talked about dignity. While microphones were being held out to him, traps were being set. He never backed down. Even when he knew death was lurking. Unfortunately, the bullets caught up with him on February 21, 1965, in Harlem, in front of his wife and daughters. He never saw the end of American apartheid. He never saw a Black president in the White House. But what he planted in people's minds — the refusal to bend, an indestructible self-respect — doesn't need a grave to live on. Malcolm X is not dead. They only killed his body. But his words have never laid down their arms.

Buying guide
Why these products earn their place
Best sellers is the shortcut for anyone who wants the safe-but-special choice: these are the products Sokofa customers order, reorder, and recommend most. Nothing is placed here by advertising — a product earns its spot through orders and customer response.
It is also a useful page for first-time buyers of handmade African products. If you are unsure where to start with shea butter grades, waist bead sizing, or which basket weave suits your shelf, the pieces here have already been road-tested by hundreds of customers, and their product pages tend to carry the richest reviews and Q&A.
Stock behaves differently from a factory catalogue, though: when a best-selling piece is handmade by one artisan, restocks depend on their workshop, not a warehouse. If something you want is available now, that is the reliable moment to buy it.
Common questions
About buying best sellers on Sokofa
How does a product become a best seller?
Through customers — best sellers are ranked by real orders and customer response across the marketplace, not by paid placement. The list shifts as new products win buyers over.
Are best sellers always in stock?
Not always. Because most pieces are handmade by individual artisans, restocking depends on the maker's workshop rather than a warehouse. The product page always shows current availability.
Is this a good place to start if I'm new to African handmade products?
It is the best place to start. These products have been bought and reviewed more than anything else on Sokofa, so you get proven quality plus the most detailed customer feedback to read before choosing.
Do best sellers make good gifts?
Very good ones — popularity is a useful proxy when you are buying for someone else. Pair this page with the Gifts Under £50 collection if you are shopping to a budget.
