This is an original hand painted work, so the brushwork and surface texture are unique to this canvas and cannot be repeated. Colours can look slightly different from one screen to another. The artist has not stated whether the painting ships framed or unframed, so please ask us before ordering if that matters to you.
Contemporary African painting often gives the figure the same freedom as everything around it, rather than setting a realistic person against a decorative background. That is what happens here. The flute player is built from the same broken blocks of red, yellow and violet as the wall behind him, so the man and the music he is making are painted as one thing. The title is the artist's own, and we have left its meaning to him rather than invent one for it.

The Masterpiece is an original acrylic painting on canvas, 22 by 30 inches, showing a flute player mid tune in reds, oranges, yellows, blue and violet. The musician stands with his eyes closed and the flute raised, and the whole surface moves with him. Bold strokes and fragmented geometric shapes break across the figure and the background alike, so the colours seem to answer the melody rather than sit quietly behind it. His striped tunic and tall patterned hat carry the strongest reds in the work, and the flute runs through the centre of it. This is the canvas itself, not a print or a reproduction. It is signed Lexis in the lower right corner and there is only one of it. The close photograph shows the brush texture and the small ridges of paint across the surface, which is the part a print can never give you. At 22 by 30 inches, roughly 56 by 76cm, it is large enough to hold a wall on its own and it suits a contemporary room, a music room or a studio. Painted in acrylic on canvas. Keep it out of direct sunlight, dust it gently with a dry soft brush or cloth, and never use cleaning fluid on the paint.
