This is an original hand painted work, so the brushwork and surface texture are unique to this canvas and cannot be repeated. Colours can look slightly different from one screen to another. The artist has said this canvas is rolled in a tube for shipping, and the second photograph shows it on a stretcher, so please ask us before ordering if you need it to arrive stretched and ready to hang.
Not every painting from an African studio is about African subjects, and this one is not. It is a landscape, painted by a Ghanaian artist who works mostly in figures, and the connection to the continent here is the maker rather than the scene. His handling of colour is the same one he brings to the market and dance paintings, small blocks of pure colour set side by side, used on trees instead of people.

Beautiful Cottage is an original acrylic landscape painting, 13 by 20 inches, with a sandy path winding through flowering trees under a blue and green sky. The greenery is built from hundreds of small dabs of orange, yellow, pink and white laid over deep green, so the leaves read as light rather than as shapes. Thin dark trunks hold the picture together on both sides, and the path runs from the bottom edge into the clearing, which is the brightest part of the canvas. It is a quiet painting, and it does its work in a room where someone sits still. This is the canvas itself, not a print or a reproduction. It is signed Lexis in the lower right corner and there is only one of it. The second photograph shows the painting from the side, on a stretched canvas, with the paint worked right out to the edge. At 13 by 20 inches, roughly 33 by 51cm, it suits a study, a bedroom or a reading corner. Painted in acrylic on canvas. Keep it out of direct sunlight, dust it gently with a dry soft cloth, and never use cleaning fluid on the paint.
