A village scene in wax resist dye on cotton, made by hand in Mozambique. Figures carry pots across a yellow ground, drawn in the long limbed style of the region. The fine veining you can see running through the colour comes from the batik process itself. Wax is laid down, the cloth is dyed, the wax is cracked on purpose, then dyed again. Those cracks are the reason no two panels are ever the same, and the reason this one cannot be repeated. Hang it on its own, or collect several and hang them in a row so the scenes read as a sequence. It also works mounted on backing fabric, stretched over a frame, or set under glass.
