Cultural context & artisan story
Leon and Cisca work from Ibadan in south west Nigeria. There is no traditional motif on this pair and the studio does not pretend otherwise. The connection to Africa here is the maker, and the idea is their own: a button that spent its working life holding a shirt closed, given a second life at the ear.

Overview
A handmade drop earring built on a bright red button, with a red and white spotted strawberry and a green leafy top hanging below it. These earrings belong to EHC, The Earring That Heard The Conversation. The buttons once held clothes together and now sit by the ear, listening in. That is the whole idea of the piece, something ordinary moved to where it can be noticed. This is the playful one. The strawberry is small and solid rather than dainty, so it reads across a room, and the red button repeats the fruit instead of competing with it. It suits denim and plain summer clothes, and it is short enough to wear all day without pulling. About 5cm long. Made by hand in Ibadan, Nigeria. Keep it away from perfume and water, and store it flat.
