Each gown is cut and sewn by hand, so the placement of the print and the aso oke varies slightly from piece to piece, and colours may look a little different on screen. The photographs show the orange colourway only. The handbag, shoes and jewellery in the photographs are not included.
Ankara is the name West Africans give to the bold wax print cottons worn across the region, and aso oke is the handwoven strip cloth of the Yoruba people of south west Nigeria, traditionally saved for weddings and celebrations. This gown sets a band of aso oke against an everyday Ankara print, made in Ibadan, the Yoruba city where the maker works.

A loose Ankara bubu gown in an orange daisy print with aso oke trim. The gown in the photographs is the orange colourway: big white daisies on a bright orange cotton Ankara, with a striped aso oke yoke in green, brown and black running in a V from the collar to the chest, and matching aso oke bands on the cuffs. It has a small shirt collar, wide elbow length sleeves and a free, swinging cut with side slits at the hem, and on the model it falls just below the knee. Every Daisy Boubou is cut and sewn by Bayonle Lawal in her sewing studio in Ibadan, Oyo State. She describes the cloth as 100% cotton Ankara, light and breathable, made for everyday wear. It also comes in red, blue, pink and green. Only orange is pictured, so message the seller to see a colour before you order. If you like the aso oke in this gown, the store also sells a short aso oke bubu dress with pockets. One free size, which the seller says fits UK 8 to 14. Cold wash to keep the colours bright.
